Spectral embedding: decode, pool, and project the short-time spectral frames stored in an analysis artifact.

A spectral analysis job writes a binary MessagePack artifact. decodeSpectralEmbeddingMessagePack reads it into a SpectralEmbeddingFrames value containing mel distributions, log-mel spectrograms, and MFCC vectors, optionally bounded to a time window, temporally pooled, and sampled to a target frame count. Call .mds() or .tsne() on the result to get a SpectralEmbeddingProjection with exact frame times, then pass it to withSpectralProjection to attach the axes to an AnalysisPreview as named time series.

Five distance metrics are available via SpectralEmbeddingDistance. The default, mel Wasserstein, treats each frame as a probability distribution over perceptual mel-bin positions and computes earth-mover distance. The other four apply cosine or Euclidean distance to log-mel or MFCC vectors directly. Both projection methods delegate to Smile via the smileMds and smileTsne families.

Temporal pooling and hop length are independent: overlapping perceptual windows can still sample at display rate. Sampling to maxFrames happens after pooling and retains time order. Example:

val frames = client.spectralEmbeddingFrames(result).get()
val projection = frames.mds()
val preview = preview.withSpectralProjection(projection)

fun AnalysisResult.spectralEmbeddingMessagePack(): AssetRepresentation

Locate the dense spectral artifact without confusing it with the plot-sized NPZ preview.

fun AnalysisResult.spectralEmbeddingMessagePack(): AssetRepresentation =
    artifacts.singleOrNull { it.role == "spectral_embedding_messagepack" }
        ?: error("analysis result $id has no spectral_embedding_messagepack artifact")

fun decodeSpectralEmbeddingMessagePack

Decode, temporally pool, and finally sample spectral frames before quadratic projection.

Mel mass is averaged and renormalized; log-mel and MFCC vectors use ordinary centered means. poolMillis and hopMillis are independent, so overlapping perceptual windows can still update at display rate. Sampling to maxFrames happens after pooling and retains time order.

fun FieldAudioClient.spectralEmbeddingSmileTsnePreview

The same preview with t-SNE axes instead, arriving as tsne_0, tsne_1, … series.

durationSeconds defaults to ten here rather than to the whole recording: the mel Wasserstein metric builds a full frame-by-frame distance matrix, so the work grows with the square of the window.
