Seeing Things

Seeing Things is a book of short prose compositions, each set to its own measure. The text is fully justified, so the width of the channel determines every line break except the last, which is set by hand. Each piece courses down its chute, emphasizing the speed and the swerves of the sentences. For it's the sentence that matters here, not the poetic line, and it's the syntax that does the work: one clause tucked inside another, a qualification held back, a turn that comes only at the end of the sentence.

A new Afterword, set in the same form as the other compositions, states the book's case.

Don’t you see that the time’s long gone when a picture was worth 1,000 words? Nowadays our pictures rob us of all the words we no longer write, leaving sentences such as these to swim against the neuronal flood-tide of oblivion.

Printed in a compact private edition, 2025, and then, with the Afterword added, in 2026.
