Flicker-track + Verge / 1999

Abstract, looped, black-and-white projections.

I made these short works at a time when I wanted a change from the complexity and expense of the motion-capture collaborations. Though the two animations are very different from each other, they are completely computer-generated (no outside samples) and they share simple elements. Each is in black-and-white, and each constructed from cubes.

Flicker-track is presented in its entirety in the quicktime clip below; Verge can be seen here.

In Flicker-track, black and white cubes flash in alternation, with the rules to their interaction probably sensed intuitively rather than grasped analytically. The soundtrack derives from the built-in telephone tones I found in the simple sound editor I was using.
